UD Students who turn 21 receive an e-mail message from Vice President for Student Life Roland Smith directing them to www.udel.edu/happybirthday.

Complete with flash animation of colorful floating balloons, the greeting offers good wishes, congratulations and a reminder about the consequences of reckless drinking. The card also includes the symptoms of alcohol poisoning, what to do to save a friend who is experiencing them and a list of campus and community numbers to call for assistance.

The University received a five-year, $700,000 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant in 1997 to reduce alcohol abuse on campus.
